Cleansing – What Method Is Best?
Cleansing our colons is a practice that has been around since the Ancient Egyptians. However, it is only in recent years that it has gained popularity.
It was a belief of the Ancient Egyptians that one should regularly perform some sort of colon cleansing to remove the toxins that were formed in the colon. If body cleansing wasn't performed, it was believed that a fever would develop as pus spread throughout the body. The belief of internal cleansing carried into the 19th century when it was thought that one's lifespan would be shortened if toxins were left to decompose in the colon. Some believed in the theory of detox cleansing so strongly that they were even willing to undergo radical colonoscopies in order to cleanse their systems.
Today, of course, more modern methods of cleansing the colon are now available. There are many cleansing options available that are easily accessible and fairly inexpensive. One option is to orally take a colon cleansing product. Dietary supplements, laxatives, herbs, fiber and prescription drugs are available for the purpose of detoxifying our bodies.
Of course, my belief is that natural cleansing is the preferred method. Eating pure, organic fruits and vegetables, green smoothies, fiber rich foods such as beans and grains will all help to keep your colon functioning optimally and naturally cleanse your system. But, even if you follow a balanced diet rich in nutrients, you may still wish to occasionally do a cleanse. If the “oral” option is not for you, you may wish to try colonics.
In a previous post, we discussed colonic therapy. This is an option for a deeper cleansing to your colon. Colonic hydrotherapy is an effective and safe method to cleanse your colon. Even if you are eating well and keeping regular, you may wish to occasionally see a professional colonic hydro therapist. During the process of colonic hydrotherapy, the body is irrigated via a tube that releases purified water (and sometimes an herbal mixture) into the rectum and colon by way of the anus.
Some people enjoy and look forward to having a colonic session. It may be a bit uncomfortable while it is being performed, but you will feel great afterwards. Some have denounced cleansing due to the lack of scientific evidence available. Many scientists believe that the colon will clean itself and there is no need to stimulate the bowel. I believe however, that while our bodies are wonderfully balanced machines, most of us do not take proper care of them. Any assistance that we can give to our bodies either by way of eating a more proper balanced diet to performing an occasional cleanse will help us to stay healthier and free of disease. Our livers are taxed by all of the toxins in our environment and occasional needs support.
Whatever you decide, do your homework! And, be certain to seek advice only from qualified professionals.
