When it comes to dieting, crash diets, fad diets and quick weight loss diets just don’t work if your goal is long term weight loss.
If you are someone who is addicted to junk food, your chances of keeping the weight off are not very good. Diets that work are not diets at all, for the betterment of your health and to lose weight and keep it off requires lifestyle changes. Research has shown that processed foods offer little nutritional value and consuming them frequently can lead to the major health issues that plague our society today. Diabetes, coronary health and cancer can all be affected by diet.
The least effective diet is the crash diet. This is when someone drastically cuts their consumption of food. Sometimes it is not even a matter of eating more healthy foods, but eating less of the bad foods that they already consume. This may help you to drop some pounds, but it will not do anything for your health.
In order to stay healthy and strive for optimal health, you must introduce good foods into your diet. Focus on consuming organic produce (leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, colorful vegetables and fruits). Cut out foods that are refined, processed, contain added sugars and high levels of saturated fats.
Take small steps to get to your goal. Don’t overwhelm yourself by trying to make too many changes at once. Make changes that you can live with and then expand on them. Try eliminating one bad food a week (or a month if that is more doable). Replace the bad food you have eliminated with a good food. Taking small steps will lead to big changes down the line.
Do the same with your goals for weight loss. Focus on reaching small, attainable goals. Once you reach a goal, keep going to your next goal. Each goal should be 5-10 pounds. After you reach a few of these goals, the pounds you have lost will really add up!
Remember, the diets that work are not diets at all but lifestyle changes. The best thing you can do for your health and vitality is to improve your diet and eat the foods that will protect you from disease. By improving your diet with the proper foods, the side effect will be weight loss. That is a side effect that probably works for most of us!
