I am definitely not one to recommend eating anything from a fast food restaurant. But, I have to say that when I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I was jolted into doing everything within my power to prevent a recurrence. This included becoming somewhat of a purist with what I choose to feed myself. I now eat a mostly organic, plant-based diet with NO processed foods. I cook everything from scratch. My diet was fair before, but not great. Yes, I was scared straight. I would never have had the discipline nor drive to keep off of processed foods if not for my diagnosis. I truly believe that since I was stage 1 cancer, with no lymph node involvement, that I do have some control over cutting the risk associated with a recurrence. If I build my immunity and strengthen my body - physically and emotionally, I will only be doing myself good.

But, I do understand that not everyone in my situation, or any situation - with or without cancer, would be willing to make the adjustments that I have made in my life. So, for that reason, I am going to take a look at a couple of restaurants to see if one can eat a relatively healthy meal should they decide to indulge. I will give my recommendations for the best menu items to consume if you are at all conscious about making healthy choices.

In this article, we will take a look at Wendy's nutrition facts. It has been touted as one of the "healthier" fast food restaurants. With a glance at their menu, I do see that there are some decent options available. Of course, I am an organic snob and don't eat meat, but they actually do have some decent options for one who is trying to grab something quick without eating something that is pure crap.

Let’s look at Wendy’s salad nutrition. Now, typically with salads it is not the salad that is questionable, but rather what you decide to put on it. In this case, I would choose one of the lower fat options such as the Italian vinaigrette dressing. Although there are several other options available as well, a few of which are low-fat options.

Believe it or not, they even have a “gluten-free” menu which is really nice to see. They accommodate those who have intolerance to gluten. Thousands of folks are afflicted with celiac disease. Taking measures to give them options is a very good business decision.

As far Wendy’s nutrition information for regular menu options, they list three that are under 550 calories. Now, while I am a big proponent of label reading to see exactly what a food item contains, without the details, I am at a loss. But, when looking at what is available from the Wendy’s menu, these seem like reasonable options. They are the ultimate chicken grill, without the sauce and a side salad with fat-free dressing; the grilled chicken go wrap, without the sauce, and a small chili; and a plain baked potato with a small chili. For me, I would choose the baked potato – hold the chili with perhaps some vegetables on top and a side salad.

For more information about Wendy’s nutrition information, check out their website. They have a lot of information available, which is a good model for any restaurant out there.

If you are on the road and need to grab a quick bite, Wendy’s does not seem like such a terrible option. I know that is not a ringing endorsement, but for me to endorse fast food at all is music to some ears!
