Frequent constipation can become a chronic condition. Temporary remedies such as laxatives and enemas may temporarily relieve your problem. But, for chronic sufferers, natural remedies for constipation should be considered.
The more effective way to relieve constipation once and for all is to change your lifestyle. This is a tried and true method and the best of the home remedies for constipation. Poor eating habits affect us in so many ways. Better eating habits will improve your health in general and help you to avoid the problems that come with the SAD (standard American diet).
A constipation remedy that has proven efficacy is to consume a high fiber diet. One of the things that I do to ensure that my I am getting all of the fiber I need is to make a smoothie most mornings for breakfast. My smoothies consist of coconut water (enough to blend), organic fruits such as: blueberries, strawberries, kiwi, mango, pineapple, raspberries (3 to 4 of any combination of these). Then I add a couple of scoops of green powder like Green Vibrance to it. To ensure that I am also getting enough greens throughout the day, I also add a green to my smoothies. It sounds odd, but you honestly don't even taste the green. You taste the yummy fruits and coconut water. I will add a good handful of spinach, kale, swiss chard or whatever green I have on hand. Blend it up in a powerful blender and enjoy!
Aside from my smoothies, I make sure I consume a mostly plant-based diet. To maintain good health, I make certain that I consume lots of organic fruits and vegetables, beans, whole grains, and organic tofu (non-GMO). These changes to my lifestyle have proven to be excellent remedies for constipation.
Fiber is necessary for proper digestion. It is so vitally important to be certain that we are getting enough of it everyday. The RDA for fiber is as follows:
Women
Under 50: 25 grams per day
Over 50: 21 grams per day
Men
Under 50: 38 grams per day
Over 50: 30 grams per day
Fiber is the portion of fruits and vegetables that our systems cannot digest. Our bodies push it out quickly. Along with the fiber, waste is expelled. So, the more fiber we eat, the more quickly waste can be expelled.
As a constipation remedy, fiber is the way to go. If you get enough fiber, you will not be plagued with constipation. If constipation persists, you may have a more serious condition and should consult with a qualified physician.
