I have always been susceptible to headaches. When I was younger, I had a headache every single day of my life. It was not until I was diagnosed with breast cancer that I really got serious about my health. I found out I was allergic to dairy, eggs, and navy beans. I had never known this prior to diagnosis. I stopped eating dairy immediately after being diagnosed and noticed a vast improvement in the frequency of my headaches.

If you are anything like me, you are looking for cures for headaches. These awful, sometimes debilitating headaches can really halt you in your tracks. Here are some of the natural headache cures that I have come across over the years. Some have helped some haven't helped me personally, but have helped others. Keep in mind, there is no one cure that will help all the people all of the time. We are all different and will have different success with different options.

Try eating some grapes. A big bowl full of grapes is not only packed with important antioxidants, but will often ease the pain of a migraine. You may try drinking a glass of grape juice, but eating the fruit is the most effective way to find some relief.

Eat a proper diet. Avoiding foods that are highly processed and contain chemicals and additives can certainly keep migraines away in the first place. As I have said in other posts, the key to good health is a well balanced, natural diet. Fresh, organic fruits, vegetables and whole grains are best. And, dairy is notorious for causing a multitude of health issues, one of which is migraines. Avoid dairy and you may see relief right away.

Caffeine in coffee and tea is controversial. Some say it helps migraines, some say to stay away. This is one of those real personal remedies. I would, however, avoid soft drinks and sweetened chocolate which also contain caffeine.

Keep hydrated! It is so important to drink plenty of purified water. Staying hydrated can prevent a migraine before it starts. In general, it is important to drink at least eight 8 ounces glasses per day. Add some freshly squeezed lemon into it to make it more palatable. Avoid alcoholic beverages. Not only can these actually give you headaches, but their tendency to dehydrate will only make a headache worse.

I haven't tried this one myself, but I have heard that honey is one of the great migraine headache cures. Many report a decrease in the severity of a migraine by simply drinking a glass of water with a teaspoon of honey mixed into it.

A cold compress held on your head where the pain is the most severe may also help your migraine. Take a zip-lock bag or wash cloth and fill it with crushed ice to make the compress. If you use a zip-lock, wrap it in a head towel to prevent ice burns.

For some, heat therapy works better as a headache cure. You can warm a dishcloth or towel by soaking it in hot water. It also works to put the damp towel into the microwave for 30 seconds or so. Apply the warmed towel around your neck and underneath your armpits. Some have reported instant relief from their migraine.

A real homeopathic headache cures is sleep. Sleep always seemed to make my headaches worse. But, for many, they help to get rid of the headache completely. Make sure you are in a completely dark, quiet room. Bright light can make migraine symptoms worse.

Having a migraine is no fun. I have lost many a day to migraine headaches. I have searched for and tried cures for headaches until I am blue in the face. These are some that I have found to be effective. I hope they work for you! Let me know!
