Fasting as a mechanism for good health has been practiced for thousands of years. Some of our greatest minds: Hippocrates, Socrates, and Plato were advocates of fasting in order to regain health. Moses and Jesus did a 40 day fast for spiritual renewal. The great Mahatma Gandhi promoted respect and compassion among those with differing religions by performing a 21 day fast.

The powerful healing effects of fasting are confirmed today with our better understanding of human physiology. As a therapeutic tool, fasting is quite powerful. It can help us to recover from many health conditions.

Fasting can be beneficial for conditions that plague so many of us such as: chronic headaches, asthma, allergies, high blood pressure, inflammatory bowel disease, IBS, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, heart disease, diabetes, benign tumors, uterine fibroids, eczema, acne and lupus.

Our systems require physiological rest, which fasting provides. During this time the body can repair itself utilizing its own powerful self-healing mechanisms. Giving our digestive systems a break from the constant hard work of digestion is an invaluable gift to our guts!

Fasting is a simple way to rid the body of accumulated toxins and cleanse cells. Water fasting will also allow the digestive tract the time to rest and strengthen itself. By strengthening our digestive tract and its intestinal mucosal lining, we are protecting ourselves from autoimmune conditions. Serious health conditions can be attributed to leakage from our guts. Leakage can be a problem when proteins are not completely digested.

Keeping our digestive tracts healthy protect our blood and inner organs from toxins that are in our environment as well as metabolic toxins.

Water fasting can help to improve health conditions more quickly and restore vitality in a more concentrated manner.

Keep in mind, that fasting is only a method of cleansing your system. It is vitally important to keep up with a good lifestyle after the fast has completed. It is so important to make good lifestyle choices and eat a healthy diet. Fasting can revitalize your system and give you a "fresh start" to a new lifestyle.

I wouldn't recommend a water fasting diet for more than a couple of days. A water fast can be followed by a juice fast which would provide your body with the nutrients that it needs.

If you continue with a water fast juicing regime, use fresh, organic produce to make your juice. Organic produce provides us with the most nutrient value as the soil is not as depleted as it is with large-scale mass farming.

It is a good idea to talk to a health care professional, such as a nutritionist before diving into any fasting program.
