Raising a happy, healthy child is one of the biggest jobs a parent can have and it is indeed a rewarding experience. However, many of us do not approach parenting with the same priority as we do in our careers. We also sometimes act based on our gut reactions to situations or simply use the same parenting techniques that our parents did.

Making an effort to introduce a healthy diet for children may not always be easy. Yet there are some gentle ways parents can push their children towards healthful eating habits. It is very important that children learn the habit of eating healthy when they are young. Good eating habits will last a lifetime, and diet is a major step towards living a healthy life. Eating well contributes to maintaining a healthy body weight and increases the chances of your child will do well in school. A good diet also improves concentration and behavior.

Preparing healthy snacks for children does not have to be a difficult task. There are many healthy recipes for children that they will surely love and you will love too!

Here are some ideas:

Tasty Carrot Soup

Ingredients:

3 cups peeled and sliced organic carrots
2 cloves crushed garlic
the zest of 1 orange, grated
the juice of 1 lemon, or 1¼ cup of orange juice

Method:

Bring 1¼ cups of water to a boil in a large saucepan and add the garlic, carrots, orange juice and zest. Cook it for twenty minutes or until the carrots are tender. Add lemon juice. Cool slightly, and transfer to a blender to puree until smooth. Return the soup to the saucepan and reheat, thinning another ¼ cup of your choice of dairy-free milk until just below boiling.

Tofurky Avocado Wrap

Ingredients:

Whole wheat or Ezekiel tortillas
1 mashed organic avocado
Vegan tofurky slices
Shredded carrots
Shredded vegan cheese (my personal favorite is Daiya)
Shredded lettuce

Method:


Assemble the wraps in this order: Spread the mashed avocado on the inside of the tortilla and sprinkle with the shredded lettuce and carrots. Lay on slices of tofurkey and sprinkle with grated cheese.


Healthy English Muffin Pizza

Ingredients:


Ezekiel or whole wheat English muffins
Organic tomato sauce
Daiya vegan shredded mozzarella
Italian seasoning
Sea salt and black pepper to taste
Red chili flakes to taste

Method:


Slight open the English muffin into two equal parts. Spoon some tomato sauce on the muffin and spread it around to cover the muffin. Add the Italian seasoning, sea salt, pepper and red chili flakes (these can get spicy so use with caution!) Add shredded cheese. Bake the pizzas at 350° until the cheese is melty (yes, the Daiya cheese melts!) Enjoy.
