Obesity is rampant in the U.S. It can be difficult to avoid the offending fast foods, processed foods and refined sugars that lead to obesity because they appear in most of the packaged foods available in your local supermarket. And, why would the government approve such foods if they are bad for us, right? Wrong. These foods are big money. But more and more research shows that these foods are what is causing increased numbers of heart disease, diabetes and even cancer.
They may taste delicious, but they wreck havoc on our health.

Restaurant food is not always good for us either. It can be high in refined salt and bad fats - again leading to obesity and other health concerns.

Here is a list of 5 unhealthy foods you should avoid:

1.    Soda or soft drinks - Many people are fond of drinking soda. Usually they drink a can of Coca-Cola or Pepsi with every meal and as a snack. What you may not know is that each can of soda sweetened with 10 teaspoons of sugar. A total of 6 to 12 teaspoons of sugar per day is the recommended maximum by government standards. Three cans of soda adds an additional 30 teaspoons of sugar to your diet - well above the recommended limit. Consuming a lot of soft drinks a day is not only very unhealthy, it adds lots of calories to your diet. Drink plenty of water or herbal tea instead.

2.    Fried foods - Deep fried food is delicious but very rich in calories and saturated fat. Most fried foods at fast food restaurants are fried in oil of poor quality which was used several times. Thus, consumption of fried food may constitute a serious threat to health because deep frying cause’s by-products that are carcinogenic.

3.    Canned soups / Instant Noodles - Canned soups are processed foods. These soups are readily available at grocery stores and supermarkets. They rarely contain vitamins but do offer up lots of artificial preservatives such as MSG (monosodium glutamate). But, luckily there are healthy organic choices that contain no MSG and less sodium. Instant noodles are also a bad choice if you want you want to live healthily. They contain trans fats and tons of sodium.

4.    Processed Foods - Processed meats such as pepperoni, sausage, hot dogs and bacon contain sodium nitrate, which can cause cancer. According to a study, 200,000 people over 7 years who ate hot dogs and other processed meats obtained a 67% increased risk of pancreatic cancer than those who do not eat meat or their byproducts or consume them minimally.

5.    Chips / Junk Food - Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is used in a lot of foods, including chips. According to health experts, monosodium glutamate is linked to sudden cardiac death, especially among athletes. Over the years, the FDA has received numerous reports of reactions to MSG. These reactions include chest pain, nausea, weakness, headache, sweating, numbness, burning, tightness and pressure to the face, tingling, rapid heartbeat and palpitations. Sounds fun, huh? To avoid these issues, avoid this junky crap!
