When it comes to weight loss, it is sometimes difficult to find the patience and discipline necessary to make lifestyle changes that will last. A fast way to lose weight may not be the best way.

Eating foods that are highly processed and contain hydrogenated oils and refined sugars are not good for our health. By simply dieting and perhaps reducing the quantities of these foods will leave you hungry and lacking in nutrients. Limiting foods that are already devoid of nutrition will only lead to more weight gain when you decide not to diet any longer.

Considering a lifestyle change to lose weight a diet, is counterproductive. A diet implies a weight loss program that will eventually be dropped. A lifestyle change implies permanent changes that will have a more lasting impact.

Don’t ask, “How can I lose weight fast.”  Rather question how you can improve your health and lifestyle. By doing so, you will lose weight in the process.

When I changed my lifestyle, I was attempting to improve a serious chronic health condition. I knew that if I didn’t make lasting changes, I was jeopardizing my survival. Weight loss was not the goal. But, by making certain eliminations and healthy additions to my diet, I lost weight in the process. Slowly and steadily, 50 lbs of unwanted weight dropped off, naturally.

I took matters into my own hands. I eliminated processed foods that are high in sugars, hydrogenated oils and refined grains. Foods that contain preservatives, additives and chemicals were dropped from my diet. I began to shop the perimeter of the supermarket. I now focus on the produce section and buy fresh, organic fruits and vegetables for my family.

I make my family’s meals from scratch. No longer do I cut open a pouch or open a box. I use a variety of spices and heart healthy oils (such as olive oil). Knowing what is in the food my family eats makes it much easier to pinpoint allergies or migraine triggers.

If you are going to consume meat, choose free-range, grass fed meat. The food that your food consumes will affect your health – good or bad. The same with eggs – choose eggs that contain omega 3 fatty acids. This ensures that the chickens were fed flax and not corn products. Healthier chickens make healthier eggs.

To complement your diet, include plenty of smoothies and fresh vegetable juices. These are ways to pack in nutrients and get your fruit and vegetable requirements for the day.

Remember, weight loss should be the byproduct of a healthy lifestyle which includes a nutritious diet and a good exercise program (walking daily will do wonders). Don’t worry about losing weight fast. When you eat for your health, weight loss will follow!
